Nailing Your Nail Care Routine: Tips for Healthy and Strong Nails

Are you looking after your nails? Here's what you need to know about maintaining healthy finger and toe nails.

Look at your nails. Do they appear to be strong and healthy? Or do you see any ridges, dents, or regions that are an odd colour or shape? Through good nail care, many undesirable nail conditions can be avoided. Some characteristics point to a problem that needs to be addressed.

Nails: What's normal, what's not

Your nails, which are made up of laminated layers of a protein called keratin, develop from the base of the nail under your cuticle. Healthy nails are smooth and free of pits and grooves. They are colour and consistency homogeneous, with no spots or discoloration. Fingernails can grow harmless vertical ridges running from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Vertical ridges become more visible with age.

Because not all nail disorders are typical, see your dermatologist if you detect any of the following:

1.Changes in nail colour, such as discoloration of the entire nail or a dark streak under the nail.

2. Nail shape changes, such as curled nails

3. Change in Nail thickness

4. Nail separation from the skin around it

5. Bleeding around the nails

6. Swelling or pain around the nails

7. Slow nail growth

Nail care: Do's

To keep your nails looking their best:

Keep nails dry and clean. By doing this, bacteria cannot develop under your fingernails. Split fingernails can be caused by prolonged or frequent contact with water. When cleaning, using strong chemicals, or washing dishes, put on cotton-lined rubber gloves. After doing each home task, moisturise. When you use hand lotion, rub the lotion into your fingernails and cuticles, too.

Practice nail hygiene. Use a sharp nail cutter. Depending on your nail growth, trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve. While washing your hands, check if your nails are properly cleaned.

Take biotin. The nutritional supplement biotin is one of the B vitamins, i.e., vitamin B7. It is said that biotin is a nutritional support for healthy hair and nails. It helps strengthen weak or brittle fingernails. Tuskca Biotin with zinc and selenium can do great to your nails and hair health.

Let them breathe. Women love to apply different nail paints and do various nail arts on their nails. However, frequent application can damage your nail health and degrade the quality of your nails. Give them a break; just let it stay nude for better breathing.

Nail care: Don'ts

To prevent nail damage, don't:

Bite your fingernails or pick at your cuticles. These habits can damage your nail beds. Even small cuts along the nail can allow bacteria and fungi to enter and cause an infection.

Remove hangnails. Live tissue could be torn as well as the hangnail. Hangnails should be properly removed instead.

Make use of harsh nail care items. Use nail polish remover sparingly. Choose an acetone-free nail polish remover when using one.

Ignore issues. Consult your doctor or dermatologist for an evaluation if you have a nail issue that doesn't appear to go away on its own or is accompanied by other signs and symptoms.

Manicures and Pedicures

If you rely on manicures and pedicures for healthy-looking nails, there are a few things to keep in mind. Stick to salons that have professional therapists, quality products and maintain hygiene. Do not remove cuticles. Cuticles can cause nail infections because they cause the skin to adhere to the nail plate. Also, make sure your nail technician properly sterilises the tools they use during the procedure to prevent the spread of infection. You may also be cautious about how the foot-bath is cleaned.

It's easy to neglect your nails, but you can keep them healthy and strong by taking a few basic steps.
