What is calcium, and why is it required?
Calcium is a mineral found in many foods. In addition to building bones and keeping them
healthy, calcium helps our blood clot, nerves send messages and muscles contract. Almost
all calcium is stored in bones and teeth, where it supports their structure and hardness.
How much calcium do I need every day?
The amount of calcium you need each day depends on your age.
Average daily recommended amounts are listed below in milligrams (mg):
Life Stage Recommended Amount
Birth to 6 months: 200 mg
Infants 7–12 months: 260 mg
Children 1–3 years: 700 mg
Children 4–8 years 1,000 mg
Children 9–13 years: 1,300 mg
Teens 14–18 years 1,300 mg
Adults 19–50 years: 1,000 mg
Adult men 51–70 years: 1,000 mg
Adult women 51–70 years: 1,200 mg
Adults 71 years and older: 1,200 mg
Pregnant or breastfeeding women 1,300 mg
What happens when I don’t get enough calcium?
Insufficient intakes of calcium can cause issues in the long term. The body maintains calcium
levels in the blood by taking it from bone. Over the long term, intakes of calcium below
recommended levels have health consequences, such as causing low bone mass (osteopenia)
and increasing the risks of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
Why choose calcium citrate?
Calcium citrate is one of the best forms of calcium supplements.
Calcium carbonate is very poorly absorbed. Calcium carbonate requires stomach acid for it
to be dissolved and absorbed. If you are taking acid blockers for indigestion, reflux or other
gastrointestinal conditions, your body may use calcium citrate better than other calcium
compounds. Acid blockers reduce the acid in your gastrointestinal tract that is usually
required for calcium absorption. Additionally, as we age, we naturally tend to produce less
stomach acid. However, unlike other calcium supplements, calcium citrate does not require
an acid environment for calcium absorption. That’s why Tuskca contains calcium citrate,
which is the best absorbing calcium formula.
Why is Vitamin D3 added with Calcium?
Vitamin D is important for the absorption of calcium from the stomach and for the
functioning of calcium in the body. Thus, it is always recommended to take a supplement
which provides calcium as well as vitamin D3. Tuskca contains Vitamin D3 along with
Calcium Citrate; thus, it becomes a high-absorbing formula.
Can diabetic patients take Tuskca Calcium?
